The new Hengqin Port is a landmark project under the policy of ‘one country, two systems’, which promotes both the ‘hard connectivity’ of infrastructure and the ‘soft connectivity’ of regulatory regimes in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It facilitates travel between Macao and Guangdong province and marks a milestone in strengthening cooperation between Macao and Guangdong’s Zhuhai and also between Macao and Guangdong. The original Hengqin Port opened together with the Lotus Bridge and then three upgrade projects were carried out. With the opening of the new passenger inspection area, the Hengqin Port turned over a new leaf.
